Important Info – 3 Days to Beltaine!

Posted by Brian under Administravia, Events, News, Upcoming No Comments »

Hello everyone! There are only three days left till Turning of the Wheel: Beltaine!

IMPORTANT INFO: Everyone MUST fill out BOTH the “Assumption of Risk” and the “ASP Event Registration Form“.  If you have not sent them in PLEASE PRINT THEM and BRING THEM WITH YOU! The forms can be downloaded from:

http://www.aspcanaan.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/Assumption-of-Risk.pdf

http://www.aspcanaan.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Registration-Form1.pdf

Auntie Shema/Sue says, “I’ve received a couple of payments via mail with a registration form but very few Assumption of Risk forms. The PayPal payments come with no forms at all. I’ll put a list together of who’s paid w/ or w/o forms.”

Don’t forget a contribution for Saturday’s Pot Luck meal and Sunday’s Stone Soup! What’s the difference? With a pot luck, you bring a dish ready to serve.  With a stone soup you bring an ingredient and we prepare it communally.

I should have a semi-final copy of the schedule posted by the end of the day today.

Hope to see you all there on Friday!

The May Queen is also known as The Maiden, the goddess of spring, flower bride, queen of the faeries, and the lady of the flowers. The May Queen is a symbol of the stillness of nature around which everything revolves. She stands for purity, strength and the potential for growth, as the plants grow in May. She is one of many personifications of the energy of the earth.

Battle For the Trees

Posted by Merlin under Uncategorized No Comments »

Merry Meet!,

Merlin here. Some of you may remember my clan and I at the last Beltane.  We cannot attend this year.  We are currently fighting for the life of our sacred grove of 60 foot pine trees, and the land itself.

The Town of Lisbon NH has decreed their supremacy over our rights to deny them permission to lay a damn sewer line next to our beloved trees.  Even though they have no granted easement.  Nor do they have one for the 400 foot run of sewer line through our back field, a nature, and camping area!

Rather then put it in the street like any sane town would do, they will come in and lay a new sewer line right next to the old one.  The old line is full of roots.

They intend to take the habitat for many nesting birds including our ravens.

They lay claim to the land under the main shop of Renaissance Reproductions.  They intend to dig around the foundation of a 90 year old building, thus causing a very fragile foundation to give way…thus killing our only source of income for 4 people.

I don’t know how much more I can add to this.  Please write to us at renrepro@gmail.com  This cruel and senseless destruction must end somewhere.   Blessings, Merlin  Protector of the Greenwood

Sad day for Mother Earth

Posted by Stormchilde under Uncategorized No Comments »

I am posting this here as a favor to Merlin I have watched this situation very closely and all I can say is it is appalling what the town is trying to do to him and Ina please read on.

Merry Meet, Merlin here,
I don’t get on this thing much anymore. My work and life challenges
take up all of my time. On many fronts, life here began to improve,
until three weeks ago.
I was greeted one morning to some town asshole digging around my pine
grove of 60 foot trees. The town was digging to find a sewer line on my
property. They have no granted easement for the 800 feet of sewer
lines. I was informed that because the past owners never contested this
illegal condition, we had no rights. They can dig on our land without
our permission, and do not have to compensate us for anything beyond a
minimum of replanting existing small shrubs, and seedlings. There has
been no discussion on their part to compensate us at this posting.
The existing sewer line runs along the base of fifteen mature
trees, about a third of the grove, along the property line. Since our
90 year old two car garage is nearly sitting on the boundary line, their
claim to a twenty-five foot right of way will take away our garage that
houses the workshops of Renaissance Reproductions!
They may also to rip up our thirty by fifty foot organic vegetable
garden that took us twenty-five years to build! They would do this if
they thought they needed to ‘find’ a sewer line. All of this to put a
goddamn sewer line that should be in the friggin street! Since both our
neighbors are Christian Fundies, they have ganged up on us, refusing to
speak in our behalf. Both of them have harassed us with their ‘your
going to hell!’ garbage. One of them having been quoted behind my back
is ” Screw him and his friggin trees.”
The town doesn’t see what the big fuss is. Let’s see, you want to
kill off my sacred grove of trees, rip through my garage for a right of
way, tear up and permanently kill off my garden, thus depriving my
family of affordable food for a quarter of the year, and you see nothing
wrong!?
We are broke, and living on food assistance. We have no firewood for
next winter. We haven’t the funds for legal council. Because the town
dislikes outsiders, we were branded as satanists the minute we held our
first SCA event. To them, we are a pariah from hell.
In our defense, we can prove that the town may not have granted
easements for much of the water and sewer lines in the town. The town
administrator said we deserve some compensation for the easements. That
was denied when they realized they would have to do this for everybody
in town.
We can point out that a suspected that there may be a leaking sewer
line near our veggie garden, and very near our water line, may put our
health in jeopardy.
We have pointed out that they have been servicing a holding tank at
least two times, after the new housing upstream overloaded the system.
They have dig around it twice, leaving a mess. The last time, my
tractor sank in bubbling raw sewerage! They are known for leaving any
dug site in shambles. We also wanted to discuss just cleaning out the
existing pipe as the cheapest solution. But their meetings have been
held without our knowledge, even though the neighbors for some strange
reason manage to attend. We haven’t been officially notified of such
meetings.
We have explained that a local environmentally sensitive logger
inspected our trees and rated them healthy. In order to put the line
in, fifteen of my sixty-foot pines, would have to be cut down. Since
the neighbors house is less then thirty feet from my trees, it would be
both expensive and hazardous to do. They are home to a growing number
of birds.
We were able to point out that a sewer line in the street would
allow the homes on the street with septic tanks to hook up. The town
would gain some much needed revenue, and send raw sewerage to the town
processing plant. A green solution.
I am PISSED!
Remember last week, a freak snow storm dumped a foot of heavy, wet,
snow on northern New England? The nite before the storm hit, I took
three, four foot iron bars, and beat them into the ground, about a foot.
They form an equilateral triangle pointed north. I then strung a
smokey quartz crystal, point down, on copper wire. I placed this
receptor near the property line, right next to the sign that says
“Trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again”. I waited…
The next day, I got up at five AM. There was about a foot of snow
on the ground. The rifle shots of tree limbs snapping was everywhere.
I cleared and filled the bird feeders, then took an eight foot two by
two, and began the task of tapping the snow off the lower branches of
all my trees, plus the kind nature lady’s trees on our other side.
I managed to save all but one branch on our huge tamarack tree. As
I walked the acreage, I noticed some blue lights flashing on the rotten
neighbors road.
The power pole in front of their house was sheared off at the
ground. So clean was the cut, it looked like a giant sword did it.
Around town, other areas suffered the same thing. It took a day to get
all the power back on…we never lost power.
I am asking for your help for two reasons.
First of all, there seems to be this creeping, ‘money is more
important then nature’, movement. People are willing to do anything to
save their precious material possessions at the expense of GAIA. The
oil disaster down in the gulf is the crowning example of how money is
more important then all else.
Secondly, our homestead, is a haven for plants and animals. We have
been given the paperwork to apply for a feed grant from the Audubon
Society. After submitting our initial request, denoting the diversity
and large population of birds, game, and plants, we got a favorable
response.

TTW – Beltaine V – Update

Posted by Auntie Shema under Uncategorized No Comments »

Greetings We will be celebrating with Turning The Wheel – Beltaine again this year at A Sacred Place over Memorial Day weekend, Friday May 28 – Monday May 31. Four days instead of three because there just wasn’t enough time for everything we wanted to do.

This year’s organizing committee is:

Event Coordinator – Brian Chabot – brian@… He’s the man to see about most anything

Merchant’s Coordinator – Tchipakkan – tchipakkan@… She’s the lady to talk to about all things to do with vending

Activities Coordinator – Deb Jarvis (Kyote) – Crowscall@… She’s the lady to talk to if you want to schedule a class, workshop, concert etc.

Land Steward & Facilities – Susan Weiss (Auntie Shema)- ASPCanaanNH@… I’m the one to talk to about helping out in general and Work Exchange specifically We still need someone for Advertising Coordinator and Registration Coordinator.

You can find more information and register online by clicking on the Event Registration buttons.

Gates will open at 2:00 Friday afternoon and close at 2:00 Monday afternoon.

Community gatherings and celebrations are important. We all stay loosely connected during the year via internet, phone, etc but this is one of the few times we can all get together face to face. A virtual {{{HUG}}} pales in comparison to running up to someone you haven’t seen in a year and wrapping your arms around each other….and the economy is still lousy…not to worry.

Until the economy rebounds the fees will be $5.00 / day.

So for the full weekend: Adults $20 … 13-18 are discounted to $15 … children 12 and under are free. Family maximum is $75

We have Work Exchange available contact me directly and we’ll arrange something. No one will be turned away for inability to pay.

If you’re in a position to donate a bit more that would be great.

As of right now we do not have a food vendor so you’ll need to bring your own food and coolers, we’ll be doing ice runs. We’re trying to cut down on paper waste so we’re asking folks to also bring their own plates, cups, bowls, and utensils. We’ll be setting up a wash station in the Camp Kitchen area.

Saturday night’s meal will be a potluck and we’re asking everyone to bring a prepared dish to share. Please list the ingredients on a card. We want to avoid any allergic reactions.

Sunday night’s feast will be a Stone Soup, Community Prepared meal. Please bring something unprepared and we’ll see what it all transforms into.

Refrigeration is available in the sandwich station in the Camp Kitchen area. If you put it in there it will be considered a donation.

Medications and infant milk/formula may be stored in the house refrigerator.

Currently we have a number of entertainers and speakers lined up and I’ll add to the list as we receive confirmations

Minnions

Posted by Niniann under Uncategorized No Comments »

I confess. I made up the joke about minions. One day I

got back from visiting Sue ( it was one of those days she

had been working hard at something on the land all day).

That night I saw an add for a t shirt that had the slogan

“What I really need are minions” on it.  I thought it was

funny, and the next time I saw Sue I threatened to get it

for her. So blame it on me.

Beltaine Activities

Posted by Brian under Administravia, Events, News, Upcoming 4 Comments »

I am remiss that I just noticed I had not yet made this announcement, so here it is:

Thank you to Deb Jarvis who has volunteered to take on the role of Activities Coordinator for this year’s Beltaine!

Her tasks will include scheduling the classes, workshops, rituals etc. for the weekend as well as making sure they all go off without a hitch. As will all the coordinator roles, she’ll be able to take volunteer minions to help with things like making sure there are enough chairs or that the class area is ready for the class.  If you’d like to help her or you’d like to run a class or workshop, email her at activities@aspcanaan.org soon as the slots are filling up fast.
